What Is A Full-Service Move, Anyways?

Posted on

If you are planning a move and have started to research your options, you are probably starting to come across moving companies that offer what's called a "full-service move." You may wonder what this terminology actually means and what a full-service move entails. While the answers may vary to a small degree between moving companies, this is basically what you can expect if you hire a full-service moving team.

Packing

From wrapping your wall art to putting cups in a box, a full-service moving team will do your packing for you. If there are some items you would rather pack yourself, then you can pack them up prior to the movers' arrival. The movers will bring the packing supplies, including boxes, tape, and bubble wrap.

Furniture and Appliance Prep

A full-service moving company can also prepare your furniture and appliances for transportation. They can take apart large pieces of furniture, such as beds. They can remove loose components from appliances, tape the doors shut, and unplug those appliances. Usually, though, you will need to clean the appliances yourself if you want them clean before the move.

Truck Loading

Don't worry about straining your back or arms. A full-service moving company will load the moving truck for you. They'll make sure everything is secured and strapped down for the ride.

Truck Unloading

When the moving truck arrives at your new home, the movers will unload everything and bring it into the home. You can give them some basic instructions as to where to place various boxes. For instance, you can tell them to put boxes from a certain bedroom in your old home in a certain bedroom in the new home. They don't usually unpack boxes for you, though.

Basic Furniture Placement and Assembly

Although the movers won't unpack boxes for you, they will typically put your furniture and appliances into place. They will reassemble any furniture that they took apart to transport, and they will do the basic setup for appliances. For instance, they can tape off of fridge doors, put the drawers back in place, and plug the fridge in.

When you hire a full-service moving company, you can expect them to basically provide the services above. If there is a specific company you're thinking about hiring, ask them for a list of what their full-service move includes. This way, you can be certain what you're getting before moving day arrives.
