How Do You Move Your Exercise Equipment?

Posted on

Have you been building your own home gym, and now you're moving to a new place and have to take it all with you? If so, you're likely wondering what is the best way to pack up your gear. These tips are going to help you do it.

Get Extra Help For The Extra Weight

One of the biggest issues with moving exercise equipment is that it can be very heavy. If you have any large equipment that is designed for working out, it needs to be pretty heavy in order to support your own weight. Always make sure you have extra hands to help deal with the heavy weight of this equipment so that you don't damage it during the moving process.

Take Measurements Of Your Path

Exercise equipment is often assembled in your home and is not guaranteed to fit through your doors. That's why it's worth taking measurements of the equipment and your exit path so that you'll know if the equipment will fit. Don't be surprised if you have to partially disassemble the equipment to make it fit. For example, this could include taking the arms off an elliptical device.

Research How To Disassemble The Equipment

It's always a good idea to find the original documentation that came with your exercise equipment if you need to disassemble it. Having the directions will ensure that you do not miss a crucial step and make the whole process go easier. Work your way backward through the instructions to see what pieces need to come off the equipment and in what order. Consider taking pictures along the way so that you can remember how things were assembled.

Protect Parts That Move

Are there parts of the exercise equipment that move? If so, you'll want to take the necessary steps to make sure that they don't move while the items are in transit. Having an arm swing out unexpectedly can cause it to crash into other items on your moving truck, causing unintentional damage in the process.

Remove The Weights When Possible

If your equipment has any weights that are attached to the device that can be removed, it is always a good idea to remove them to get the weight down. There is no need to make moving the equipment harder than it has to be by keeping all the weights attached.
